Christian Counseling and Relativism in Counseling
Christian Counseling has always been an objective based counseling that finds its authority in a all binding moral law. Subjective Relativism on the other hand finds its source of authority in personal self, society and time. According to this philosophy, laws, societies, traditions and ideals come and go and with them go ideas of right and wrong. This erroneous philosophy places man and society at the center in deciding what is right or wrong, while Christian theology finds an all binding law that is eternal for all men of all ages. With these things in mind, a Christian Counselor does not present options to a client if the solution involves a moral dilemma that is contrary to the gospel and Christ. Instead the Christian Counselor helps guide the person to make the right moral decision even if that decision is a difficult one. This is the primary difference between objective counseling and subjective counseling.
